Becton, Dickinson & Co. donates $1 million to Fairleigh Dickinson University (The Record)
Fairleigh Dickinson University has received $1 million from Franklin Lakes-based medical technology company Becton, Dickinson & Co. to bolster the university’s health-science education schools, according to a news release. Fairleigh Dickinson said the donation will support the renovation of science laboratories at its Metropolitan Campus, the construction of a training center at the university’s new school of pharmacy, and scholarships and graduate fellowships for economically disadvantaged nursing students.

Jersey City lawmakers urge CarePoint Health to withdraw threat to lock out Christ Hospital nurses (The Jersey Journal)
Jersey City’s City Council has adopted a resolution urging CarePoint Health to withdraw its threat to lock out registered nurses at Christ Hospital as contract negotiations between CarePoint and the Health Professional and Allied Employees workers continue. “CarePoint has issued an unprovoked threat to lock out the registered nurses of Christ Hospital if a settlement is not reached. This is a threat to the public health of the community of Jersey City and other Hudson County communities CarePoint serves,” the resolution reads. The resolution says the threat was issued even though the union has pledged to continue bargaining without a threat of a strike.

If a visitor from Camden had a health emergency in Newark today, it would likely take a series of phone calls and faxes for a hospital in Newark to get access to the patient’s health records. By the end of the year, there’s a good chance it will only take a few computer keystrokes. The New Jersey Health Information Network, which encompasses six local health information organizations, expects to debut electronic records sharing by the end of the year.
