SOMERSET — Nine nurse externs from the surrounding area recently graduated from Somerset Medical Center’s eight-week externship program, where they gained extensive clinical patient care experiences.
During their time at the medical center, each nurse extern was paired with one or two registered nurse preceptors that served as mentors. The nurse externs reinforced their clinical skills, such as obtaining patients’ vital signs, applying simple dressings for wounds, performing non-invasive procedures, monitoring patients’ intake and output, documenting in patients’ charts.
